A Journey of Growth & Joy

At Chabad at Monterra, we are dedicated to making the Bar Mitzvah process a joyful and unforgettable transition into Jewish adulthood. No matter the starting point, we help every boy shine and understand what it truly means to become a Bar Mitzvah.

Understanding the Milestone

Becoming a Bar Mitzvah is more than a ceremony; it is a young man stepping into his role within the Jewish community. Every student is different, and we work with each boy to reach his unique potential. By the day of his celebration, our goal is for your son to confidently:

  • Gain general Jewish knowledge (Kashrus, Shabbos)
  • Perform essential Jewish rituals (donning Tefillin and Tallis)
  • Read Hebrew and master cantorial notes for the Torah
  • Lead portions of the communal prayer services
  • Deliver a public speech with pride and confidence

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my son has no prior Hebrew knowledge?
This is very common! Our "Mitzvah with a Smile" approach is designed to build confidence from the ground up. We ensure every boy feels successful and proud on the Bimah, regardless of his starting level.
Can the celebration be in a different location than the service?
Absolutely! We want to make this day as special and unique as your family is. While the service is held at our Chabad, the party can be held wherever you choose. Please note the Rabbi can only participate in celebrations that offer certified Kosher food.
Can family members participate in the service?
Yes, we love involving the family! During our initial planning meeting, Rabbi Adi will discuss the various "Aliyahs" (Torah honors) and other special roles that can be given to grandfathers, fathers, and other Jewish family members.
How is the milestone commemorated at Chabad?
Included in your ceremony fee, we honor this major life event with a beautiful, permanent dedication on our Tree of Life plaque inside the Shul.
Can I join the Bar Mitzvah Club at any point during the year?
No, there are two times a year when you can join:
1. At the beginning of the school year.
2. In January, after winter break.
Note: New students may need to take private lessons to build the required skills to join the group.
